Lifelines is a not-for-profit biobank and data or biosamples are available for researchers worldwide. Costs for biosamples and data services are fee-for-service based for scientific institutes, meaning that Lifelines’ price includes the cost price.

Data services include:

• registration and review of applications
• data management services
• workspace infrastructure
• storage (extra storage and memory can be added to the workspace).

The usage of a broad population data collection like Lifelines is less expensive compared to collecting your own data and/or biological samples.

Data service fees

Costs may vary depending on the type of application and/or project. We offer a broad range of services, including access to phenotypic and genotypic data, sample requests, additional data collections and data linkage with other data registries (such as Statistics Netherlands). In this table you will find our data service fees. For sample applications, infrastructure and additional studies please contact us directly for a cost indication.

*	The introduction fee for UMCG/RUG researchers is valid during the data collection period of the third assessment (2019-2023).
**	Data service fees are based on one year data access. It is possible to offer data services per month (this includes a fixed base fee and a linear fee for Workspace access per month).
***	Lifelines owns several revision workspaces for researchers who need access to their data after their Workspace has been closed. First-time access (maximum of one month) is free. After this, costs are €125 (excl. VAT) per month. For cluster users revisions are also possible, costs will apply after first-time access and if the project is inactive.
****	We offer a special fee for BA/MA students who do not require data management services and have their own specific research question.
*****	Data linkage fees only cover the costs for the Lifelines data release + linkage management. Additional fees from CBS, ZorgTTP and other data sources may apply.

 

Access to COVID-19 data

In 2022 we have a temporary special fee for COVID related research proposals. This data service is available for researchers worldwide:

• COVID-data fee: €2.900,- ex VAT (€3.509,- incl. VAT)

Data services for students

We offer a special student fee for researchers who support students that would like to analyse the Lifelines dataset for a specific study aim or research question. This can be within an existing Lifelines project or the PI can apply for a new project, together with the student. 

• New applications starting at €2.950,-
• Student workspace user: €600,- ex VAT for 6 months data access.
• Data services for students can also be offered per month. This student fee does not include extra data management services.
