Effect of antibiotics on the microbial community structure and function in the gut

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is worldwide one of the most important public health threats that we face currently. It is considered as a main research topic of interest by all international agencies (ECDC, CDC, WHO), a global problem that needs urgent action since success of certain interventions, such as surgery and treatment of vulnerable patients with acute and chronic diseases depends on effective antimicrobial therapy. Due to the limited provision of new antibiotics, the prudent use and conservation of existing ones is crucial.
