Gender diversity and mental frailty in the Dutch general population

Mental health problems and suicide risk are significantly more common among individuals with gender incongruence (when sex at birth does not match gender identity), than among cisgender people, but robust population-level data are as of yet lacking. In large-scale national surveys, gender identity is not (yet) well measured, and much is still unknown about individual and social risk and prevention factors. The current project uses the Lifelines cohort study to gain insight into the prevalence of gender incongruence in the Netherlands and the relationship with mental health problems among specific subgroups.
