Ondervoeding en overgewicht/obesitas (ZonMW) -Malnutrition and overweight/obesity (SCOOP)
More than half the Dutch population suffers from overweight/obesity, while, in parallel, risk of malnutrition may occur in up to 25% of patients with (chronic) diseases. Recognition of malnutrition in persons with overweight/obesity is difficult as screening tools mostly rely on low BMI and 5-10% recent weight loss. These measures and their cut-off points have been developed in normal-weight persons and are unreliable in persons with overweight/obesity. We, therefore, will investigate how much weight loss in overweight/obese adults is associated with poor prognostic outcomes such as hospital admission, long-covid, and mortality, and identify groups at increased risk for being malnourished.
