Overgang en werk
Working women, especially in the age group over 45, may experience various menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, sleep problems, fatigue or mood swings. Menopausal symptoms can be long-lasting and may have an impact on work ability and functioning at work.
Since more and more women work during this stage of life, more attention is needed for the menopause in relation to work ability, work functioning, work disability and early retirement. A literature study, conducted in 2019 (Van Oostrom, 2020, https://www.rivm.nl/documenten/literatuurverkenning-naar-overgangsklachten-en-werk), shows that current knowledge about the relationship between menopausal symptoms and most work-related outcomes is inadequate. This certainly also applies to the Dutch situation, where only a few studies have been carried out in a population of women who visited a menopausal clinic because of their menopausal symptoms. Based on this, it was concluded that more knowledge on the relationship between menopausal symptoms and work-related outcomes is needed in working women in general.
Therefore, the aim of this application is to collect additional data on menopausal symptoms in working women, in order to provide insight into the prevalence of (various) menopausal symptoms in working women in the Netherlands and the association between menopausal symptoms and work-related outcomes.
