Prevalence and characteristics of undiagnosed celiac disease in the Northern Netherlands

This research aims to identify previously undiagnosed celiac disease patients, among individuals who are genetically susceptible to celiac disease, that are not adhering to a gluten-free diet due to a lack of diagnosis. We will assess the impact of undiagnosed CeD on health and quality of life while closely monitoring crucial symptoms to enhance diagnosis. Through investigation of gut bacteria, environmental risks, and genetics, we intend to uncover triggers for CeD. This strategy directly addresses diagnostic delays, fostering better patient outcomes and more effective management approaches.
