Riding the waves in the pandemic tail: incidence, risk factors and impact of SARS-COV-2 reinfections (herinfectie project)
This research should reveal the risk factors for reinfection, including waning immunity against SARS-CoV2 and what these infections mean for health and functioning on the short and long term. The immune status of the current participants (one based on serology and one on cellular immunity) will be described in relation to occurrence of reinfections later on. In addition, a large set of potential risk factors across cohorts within the project will be analysed. The consequences of reinfections for health and functioning will be analysed, as well as the infecting strains. The results are expected to contribute to better preparation of next corona waves, and where possible to limit regulations and/or make them as targeted as possible to avoid large impact on the individuals and the population as a whole.
