The relationship between cardiovascular risk factors and renal cell carcinoma: before and after treatment

The kidney plays an important role in the maintenance of blood pressure and water homeostasis. The development of renal cell cancer is related to high blood pressure, overweight and smoking, however, the underlying mechanisms are not well known. We aim to study the relationship of renal cell cancer with other cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes and chronic kidney disease. Treatment of renal cell carcinoma by surgery is related to shorter survival. Thus, we will also study if individuals with renal cell cancer more often develop cardiovascular disease after surgery.
